Last week we checked out an article about the battery life of the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S after making the update to iOS 7. In this test the iPhone 4S suffered very badly from battery drain.
However the test showed that the iPhone 5 was perfect when it came to battery life, despite the fact that the iPhone 4S drained down very fast. The article got a great deal of feedback from those who owned the iPhone 5 and 4S, who had seen issues with battery drain with iOS 6 installed. After looking into the problems with iOS 7 it was very clear of how to remedy the battery life.
After spending many hours with the beta iOS 7 it did become very clear that there was a big difference in battery life. We did see this when installing iOS 6 last year when it came out, as it caused problems for many owners of iPhones.
It does seem that this is not an issue with hardware and the problem is when installing an update such as iOS 6 or the beta version of iOS 7.
Tests did show us the battery drain for the iPhone 5 and 4S when installed with iOS 7 were without battery drain, but we think was only luck. It seems that it happens randomly and it seems to be dependent on the conditions of the installation. On saying though, there is a very easy way to install iOS on the handset without having any battery drain issues.
We were able to stop the battery drain problems on two iPhone very easy, but on saying this you should not have to mess around like this and Apple will be revealing a fix hopefully.
First we backed up the devices and then installed iOS clean through DFU in iTunes. To do this you need to keep the Sleep/Wake button held down, with the Home button. When the Apple logo appears you continue to hold the Home button until iTunes tells you that the device is in recovery mode.
You then install a new copy of iOS 6 and after this install iOS 7 beta and restore the data. Bear in mind that you are able to downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6 only if you made the iTunes back up of iOS 6.
The battery drain of the iPhone 4S was major and the handset drained in just hours. A clean install and restore can remedy this. The battery drain issue occurs when people restore the back-up they made without having made a clean installation first.
So have you suffered from battery drain with your iPhone 5 or 4S and did our instructions help you?
